PEDALPOWER KIDS STATEMENT ON COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS AND BIKE PROGRAMS
Bike Program Precautions Due to Covid-19- Subject to Change
Since we were able to resume programming in May 2020, we’ve worked hard to develop safe, nurturing and fun bike experiences.
Now more than ever, kids need the freedom, power and joy that comes from riding a bike confidently and safely! Based on CDC, American Camping Association, State and County guidelines, here is an outline of the modifications and precautions we are currently implementing. This list is not exhaustive, and it will continue to change as new information and best practices are available.
- Masks/Face coverings: We require ALL PPK staff and all adults to be masked at all times. We require all participants to arrive in masks. For our Bike Club riders, we will allow masks to be removed while riding if able to maintain appropriate distances from other riders.
- Social distancing: We encourage and remind riders to remain distanced during instruction and stops. We ask that parents please social distance if observing classes and during drop off and pick up periods.
- Outdoors: All of our programs are already entirely outside, and will continue to be.
- Smaller program capacities & cohorts: Our programs are already small in size, for those camps maxing out at 16 participants, we will be dividing two cohort groups for the entire week, minimizing interactions between the groups.
- Hand sanitizing/Disinfection of equipment: We take regular breaks to sanitize hands throughout the camp day, and before and after weekly classes. All of our shared equipment (bicycles, ramps, cones, etc) is disinfected between each group.
- Health checks and travel: We require staff members to conduct a wellness and temperature check personally. We will continue to monitor temperatures upon arrival to our camps and programs. First and foremost, we will ask that you not send your child if he or she is feeling ill at all- including respiratory, gastrointestinal or cold symptoms, as COVID-19 doesn’t necessarily present in typical ways in children. We would ask the same if members of your family have symptoms or have been exposed. We will work with you to help arrange for makeup sessions as needed. Please inform us ASAP if you become ill or aware of a COVID exposure within your family.
- Camp procedures: Subject to updating for 2021- In order to minimize our staff’s close contact with campers, we would kindly request that your child be able to independently open the water bottles, food containers and backpacks that you send to camp each day. This is a great opportunity to build independence! Please consider sending your child with their own personal bottle of hand sanitizer. We wish to minimize bathroom exposures, so kindly request that your child use the bathroom before arriving at camp. Prior to camp starting, we will be in touch with specific drop off and pick up procedures, but we do anticipate something like a car drop off line, at which your camper and his or her gear and bike will be unloaded and checked in by our staff, so that we can minimize parents and siblings congregating in our camp areas. Lastly, we would kindly remind you that our staff will have many additional tasks and work related to Covid-19, so its imperative that you follow all directions for required equipment and clothing for camp. We want to use our time together to ride, not to fix bikes that arrive in poor condition or to try to track down water and snacks for campers.
Summary of PedalPower Kids COVID 19 Precautions - All Lessons, Camps and Group Programs
- Staff, Instructors, riders and parents must wear face-covering masks at all times. Riders (children) may remove masks when able to socially distance, if bothered by heat/impaired breathing.
- Our fleet of Woom bicycles are disinfected at all contact points between each rider, following CDC practices.
- Gel hand sanitizer is available and we will mandate use by riders before and after classes as well as during breaks for Campers.
- Effective immediately, we will no longer allow students to borrow helmets or cycling gloves, as we are not confident we can effectively sterilize soft surfaces between uses. Cycling gloves can be purchased.
- Please continue to send your child with a water bottle- being well-hydrated is important! However, water bottles left behind will be disposed of immediately.
- We’ve discontinued our end-of-class/camp cheer and huddle and teach our students to stand at a “social distance” during instruction. We’re always trying to encourage more space between riders, so this will be a welcome reinforcement! However, our focus will remain on providing high-quality, positive and personalized bike instruction. We cannot police children. If you are concerned about your child’s ability to stay distanced from others and feel that is a risk, then we would suggest private lessons at this time.
- For now, no hugs, high fives or non-essential touches between fellow riders and/or coaches. We’re getting good at elbow bumps!
- Please do your part by keeping sick children home from bike programs. No child who has a cough or cold symptoms, or who has had an above-normal temperature in the past 24 hours, should attend. Please follow the same rule if there is anyone else in your household who is sick, and for whom COVID-19 has not been ruled out by testing and/or is returning from travel in impacted areas. Don’t worry, we will offer liberal make-up opportunities so that all of our families can do the right thing.
- We will continue to communicate with our venue hosts and update you on any schedule changes.
While life may be anything but “business as usual” in the coming months, riding a bike can continue to provide some sense of peace and normalcy to your children and to you!
Get outside and enjoy the warming spring temps, blossoming trees and flowers. Waves and smiles exchanged with other riders won’t transmit the virus and will remind us we’re all in this together. Be well and thank you for your support.
2021 Refund/Cancellation Policy
Gift Card Balance Credit only. No refunds. If you are unable to attend due to illness, we will work with you to reschedule.
